Pick up Pickleball at the Racquet Club

By Linda Powell

The Racquet Club has resumed four days of Pickleball Open Play. Play happens Monday through Thursday mornings from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. There is no fee for Racquet Club members to play, but there is an $8.00 fee for non-members. Members may reserve courts and play at their leisure. Visitors and non-members must call the Racquet Club at (706) 268-3367 to reserve a court.

We are also starting back with beginner lessons for pickleball. This is one-hour instruction about the rules and basics of the game. There is no charge for this clinic but you must call the Racquet Club to reserve a time for instruction.

We have paddles and balls for your use should you need them. All you’ll need is a pair of tennis shoes and you’re good to go. Come join us!

Back by popular demand

The Racquet Club received a new inventory of black face masks proudly showing our Big Canoe logo. The masks sell for $7.00 plus tax. These masks were such a big hit the first time around that we sold out quickly. Stop by the Racquet Club soon to get yours. They make a great holiday gift for family and friends, a perfect stocking stuffer. (Photo by Linda Powell)

Double A tennis players hit at Big Canoe

By Linda Powell

The Big Canoe Racquet Club was honored to have property owner John Hanna and seven of his friends, all top-level players in Atlanta, come and play on a recent Sunday. Several Racquet Club members came to watch the action.

It was tennis at its finest and was exciting to watch. Most of these guys play in Pro-Am fundraisers all over the state. We look forward to having them visit again. After a couple of hours of tennis, the group was off to have lunch at The Clubhouse and then enjoy a round of golf, taking advantage of the wonderful opportunities we have in Big Canoe.

Wellness Center announces holiday hours

When the holidays roll around, we’re all a little more conscious of our weight when plates of cookies and candies are waved right under our noses. Calories usually bring thoughts of exercising, particularly when the new year peeks through the looking glass.

To help maintain our good spirits and intentions, the Wellness Center will be open during regular hours except for a few days. When those days roll around, try a few laps around the Playfield to maintain your smug sense of righteousness.

Wellness Center Holiday Hours

Christmas Eve, December 24 – Closed
Christmas Day, December 25 – Closed
New Years Eve, December 31 – 6:15 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Wellness Center announces additional safe reopenings

By Steve Panetta

The Wellness Center continues to accommodate exercisers. Ten people at a time are allowed on the exercise floor; face coverings are still required during the workout. The “Mask Free” zone that had been established received little activity and requests to reopen the racquetball/squash court made it worthwhile to make a change.

Effective in early October the court reopened for racket sports usage. Masks are required during play and singles only are allowed at this time. Some group exercise classes are back live in the aerobic studio. Again, a face covering is required. Some classes are being held outdoors and some remain online. Check with the Wellness Center at (706) 268-3441 to learn where your favorite class is being offered.
Massage therapy is back as well as physical therapy.

The indoor pool offers group exercise classes as well as four lanes for swimmers. A face covering is required as you check-in at the front desk but may be removed once the natatorium is entered.

Both the pool and exercise area are by reservation only. Time slots may be booked the day of or made for the next day. Sessions are booked on the hour for 45 minutes. If there is availability after your scheduled session, you are invited to sign up and stay for the next session.

Face coverings are mandatory and must be worn to cover the nose and mouth at all times. Safety is the utmost concern and we want to continue to provide a healthy and safe Wellness Center for all residents. Unfortunately, personal training, the sauna, and showers have not yet reopened.

Wellness Center whirlpool reopens November 1

It’s been some time since our aches and pains were soothed by the swirling waters of the Wellness Center whirlpool, but you can put away that extra tube of BenGay as our whirling waters will open again on Sunday, November 1 at exactly 8:00 a.m.

There are a few restrictions for using the whirlpool. Only one person is allowed in at a time, except for cohabitating couples. Soaking is by reservation only. Slots can be reserved by calling the Wellness Center at (706) 268-3441.

Reservations will be accepted the day of or for the following day at the top of the hour or on the half-hour.

Face coverings aren’t required while in the whirlpool but are required when the building is entered. They can be removed once you stroll into the natatorium.
