A fun-filled Shamrocks & Shenanigans lineup planned for Big Canoe on St. Patrick’s Day

By Colin Bergen

Get your best green clothes ready because Shamrocks & Shenanigans will be happening throughout Big Canoe on Patrick’s Day.

We’re turning our favorite Irish holiday into an all-day event. Here is a sneak peek at all of the planned activities for March 17.

The Clubhouse goes Irish for lunch and dinner: The Clubhouse will offer a special menu for lunch and an Irish-themed buffet for dinner. This menu includes such dishes as Jameson-glazed salmon and corned beef with braised red cabbage and apples. The regular mid-week Happy Hour menu will be available from 2-5 p.m. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. To reserve a spot, call 706-268-1253 or log in to the POA website and secure a table through the OpenTable app.

Green Apples and Green Tea (while supplies last): For a healthy bit of green, stop by the Wellness Center or Racquet Club for a green apple and some green tea.

Leprechauns on the Lake at the Marina, 1-2 p.m.: Enjoy a lucky cup of hot chocolate at the Marina and keep your eyes peeled for the leprechauns and their shenanigans!

Green Beer on the Green, 3-5 p.m.: What is St. Patrick’s Day without green beer?  You’ll find it served on the 19th hole, a.k.a. the terrace at Duffer’s and The Black Bear Pub.

Putting Green Contest, 4-5 p.m.: Put your putting skills to the test in a contest hosted by the golf team at the Big Canoe putting green. There will be prizes in the men’s, women’s and children’s categories. No registration required. For more information, contact Mike Miller at mmiller@bigcanoepoa.org.

Bear Society’s St. Patrick’s Day Party, 7-10 p.m.: Finish off your day with an Irish shindig hosted by the Bear Society. The party will be at the Clubhouse’s Black Bear Pub and Sunset Veranda. You can grab a green beer or cocktail and listen to the full, electric version of the band Sock Monkey on the Veranda.
