The Big Canoe Model Yacht Club launches its 2023 season on April 22

By Gidge Dady

The little boats are back! The Big Canoe Model Yacht Club (BCMYC) will
launch its 2023 sailing season at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22 on Lake
Sconti. Before the sailing gets underway, there will be an open house
at the POA Lodge at Lake Sconti and a traditional blessing of the fleet by
honorary member Rev. Jeff Gangel, pastor at Trinity Church.

In addition, there will be a campaign “shower” for all the model yachts
which are present during this opening day even if they are partially
built. Former BCMYC members and anyone interested in participating
in sailing with this organization are welcome to bring their model
sailboat for this event. Please bring your boat(s) to the POA Lodge by 1:45 p.m. on
Saturday, April 22 to get set up for the blessing of the fleet.

The Big Canoe community is invited to attend. During the open house,
members will be available to provide more information about the club,
which was recognized as one of the fastest-growing radio-controlled
model boat clubs in America. Guests will be able to learn more about
participating in the monthly meetings, recreational sailing and learning
to sail these boats. There will be a display of different model radio –
controlled boats provided by the owners.
