World Polio Day Fundraiser Wine and Charcuterie at the Mill

By Fran Farias

Did you know that polio could be the second human disease to ever be eradicated? Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we’ve helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent. It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries (Afghanistan & Pakistan) where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

Be a part of history & join the members of the Rotary Clubs of Big Canoe and Jasper as we partner with Rotary International to come one step closer to ending polio in the world. During World Polio Week, you’re invited to join rotarians and guests to hear guest speaker, past District Governor Bill Strickland share about his travels with Rotary International and the fight against Polio. World Polio Awareness event on Oct. 19 at The Lodge at Old Mill, 230 Old Mill White Road Extension, Jasper, GA. the event will include Wine and Charcuterie table. Tickets $20 per person, $35 per couple. Reservation requested by: RSVP2RotaryEvents@gmail.com

Many of us know of someone in our community and our families who were impacted by Polio. While we are close to eradicating polio, we are not done yet. With the recent outbreak of Polio in New York – Raising awareness and support to eradicate is every more important. We still need funds to continue immunization and surveillance efforts. Your gift will get us closer to the finish line.

All proceeds go to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. For more information contact Fran Farias, President of Big Canoe Rotary or visit endpolio.org
