Big Canoe Pickleball Fundraiser To Benefit Alzheimer’s Research

Please join us for the first Big Canoe Pickleball Fundraiser presented by the Wellness Collaborative to benefit Emory University’s Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (GADRC) on Saturday, June 10.

An estimated 6.7 million Americans aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s, which means that many of us know someone who suffers from this dreadful disease. Alzheimer’s slowly and insidiously robs the person of his or her mind and the ability to function on their own. And as awful as this is for the person afflicted, the family and caregivers suffer tremendously as they watch their loved one slip away, seemingly by the day, to become a person they hardly recognize – and who often has lost the ability to recognize them.

The Emory Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (GADRC) is the only comprehensive research center for Alzheimer’s disease and related memory disorders in Georgia. It is a multidisciplinary team of physicians, scientists and staff across multiple departments and schools within Emory University, including the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing. The Team also collaborates with faculty at Georgia Tech and Georgia State University and scientists around the world, working to translate research advances into improved care and diagnosis.

Ongoing local, national, and international collaborations contribute to some of the most significant work in the field, including participation in trials that support recent advances in the treatment for the slowing of the clinical symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, including the recently approved medications.

Big Canoe resident Allan Levey, MD, Ph.D., the director and founder of the GADRC, will attend this event and is excited to share more information about the GADRC and the encouraging new research developments.

A $50 minimum donation per person is requested to register, 100% of which will benefit the Emory GADRC. You do not have to participate in the pickleball event to donate to this worthy cause. This promises to be a fun-filled day of Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles, Intermediate and Advanced Levels begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10. A light lunch will be provided for players – and there will be a raffle and door prizes to add to the excitement!
