Gentlemen and gentlewomen, hold your horses!

By Alice Eachus

The April “outside the gates” Big Canoe Car Club Show was spanked by Mother Nature as
Saturday, April 24 had a grim and nasty weather forecast.
The show was to be held in Tate at the four-way stop.
Since no car buff wanted to have their ride pelted with drops, the show has been rescheduled for
Saturday, May 1, still at the Tate four-way stop from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Jason of Sideburners BBQ will be there with his food truck full of brisket, tacos, pulled pork,
Southern sides and the best banana pudding this side of Mississippi.
If you responded you were coming on April 24 and are still planning on showing off your ride on
May 1, there’s no need to respond.
If you were coming but can’t make the new date, please let Elaine DeNiro know by emailing her
at edeniro@bellsouth.net.
If you’re brand new, find the fragrance of cars intoxicating and would like to see a line-up of the
greatest rides in Big Canoe, email Elaine at edeniro@bellsouth.net and she’ll put your name on
the rally roster. This includes folks who just want be part of the action, not necessarily show off
their cars or trucks. Figures are asked for so there’s no rumbling at the food truck. We want
everybody to enjoy a plentiful, good lunch.
COMING ATTRACTIONS: The Big Canoe Car Club has been asked by the POA to be on the
ball field for the 2021 4th of July Family Day. Book the date and get out the old car polish, you
have plenty of time for a good old-fashioned detailing.

Spring welcomes Wildflower Bunch Plant Sale

By Alice Eachus

Every year spring is welcomed in fine fashion when the Wildflower Bunch hosts their amazingly
colorful annual Plant Sale. There are beautiful flowers, hanging baskets, houseplants, bushes and
trees to buy with the added bonus of knowledgeable gardeners to head eager play-in-the-dirt
diggers in the right direction.
Plants are Big Canoe friendly so all are ready to hit the ground running to add to your seasonal
outdoor splendor. You’ll also find garden accents to add a wee bit of whimsy to your yard.
The Wildflower Bunch Plant Sale is held at the Wildcat Pavilion over two days. Enjoy the sale
on Friday, April 30 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday, May 1 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Participating vendors include: Whispering Springs Nursery, Green Trade, Willow Gate Gardens
and Amicalola Woodworks.
Hang around Wildcat Pavilion at the Plant Sale and you’ll be sure to discover gardeners know
the best dirt.

Baby animals are everywhere, watch out for them

By Alice Eachus

This mama goose might be strutting like a peacock with her newly hatched goslings; how proud
she is!
Lisa Crow came upon this feathered family crossing the Lake Petit dam. Now, geese don’t have
a clue about road right-of-way rules, so it’s up to all of us to watch out and protect oblivious
families enjoying spring days.
This includes bears, deer, foxes, turkeys, possums, turtles and any other creature that allows us to
share their home. Mamas have enough trouble trying to keep their young’uns in line, let’s give
these families a helping hand by driving slowly and even stopping if necessary.
Enjoy watching our forest friends. They offer valuable lessons in relaxing and enjoying the
moment.

Crawfish Boil adds Po Boy sandwiches to the menu

The crawfish boil is on again this year with famous Big Canoe Cajun chef Jeff Moreau in the kitchen. Jeff is a tremendous chef and takes time off from his real work each year to perform his culinary magic for his lucky fellow residents.
This year, he’s planning to add “po boy” (aka, hero or submarine) sandwiches to the menu.
Jeff will collaborate with and use the kitchen at Sourwood. Seating will be outside in the parking lot at North Gate. We’re going to have both a DJ and live music. We’re hoping to have the popular and well-known Bill Pound, play for us.

Everyone welcome to the Bear Society party

The Bear Society will be buying a keg (or two), from the clubhouse and having a party, Sunday afternoon, in the area between the clubhouse and Duffer’s.
FREE BEER!
The party will begin at 1:00 pm and we will have our favorite DJ, Mike Ehrlich, entertain us.

Everyone is welcome. We encourage members to get their mugs from inside the Pub and use them Sunday.

It’s going to be a great afternoon.
