A Night of Throwbacks at 50th Anniversary Trivia Night

On Thursday, Aug. 18, residents are invited to participate in 50 Years of Trivia at the Clubhouse. Not only will there be cash prizes for the winning teams with the deepest Big Canoe knowledge, but participants will sample country-style dishes like the Chimneys used to serve. The menu will include fried chicken tenders, potato salad, mac ’n’ cheese and more.

Ellen Sheridan, the co-chair of the 50th Anniversary Task Force, had the idea in 2020 when the committee formed.

“A unique trivia event covering 50 years was something we all thought would be fun,” Ellen says.

The questions for the event will focus on decade-specific Big Canoe trivia from the past half-century.

“Some of the questions try to cover where we live,” says Susan Rolander, another task force member. “But there’s also music questions, history questions – it’s not all about Big Canoe.”

Unlike typical trivia contests, such as the unrelated Tuesday night trivia at the Clubhouse, the 50th-anniversary event will have participants randomly assigned to a group, though couples can stay together.

The Task Force decided to celebrate Big Canoe’s past with a classic throwback menu organized with input from those who had dined at the Chimneys when it was a restaurant.

“We thought it would be nice to have a menu reminiscent of what might have been served in those early days,” Ellen says.

Susan’s husband Don Rolander will emcee. The cash bar opens at 5 p.m. Dinner is at 6 p.m. and the game starts at 7 p.m. Admission: $30 per person. Click here to reserve a seat.
