“Big Canoe Medicine Show” Comedy/Variety Production on Veranda on Monday, May 22

The fledgling Big Canoe Comedy Ensemble will present the first performance of the “Big Canoe Medicine Show” Monday, May 22 at the Veranda. While the show is at 7 p.m., with the doors will opening at 6 p.m. Folks are encouraged to come early for a good seat, BYOB and snacks. There is no charge for admission but donations will be appreciated.

The Big Canoe Medicine Show is a comedy/variety performance with a cast of 20-plus—all Big Canoe residents—performers, actors and musicians. The event is a collaboration between Big Canoe residents Jackie Agers and John Herzler.

Starting in college, Jackie has been active in the theater all of her life. Her experience includes singing, writing and directing plays and speech competitions as well as working with the Miss Texas pageants and Junior Miss pageants at state and local levels. She has also been involved in community theater, most recently with the Tater Patch Players. She loves comedy and being on stage. Last fall, she conducted two Introduction to Improvisation classes for Big Canoe residents. Many of the Medicine Show cast members are graduates from her class.

In addition to a corporate career, over the years, John has been involved in radio broadcasting and advertising. He has played guitar since the age of 14. Long-time Big Canoe residents will recall John’s active management of the Acoustic Showcase from 2014 to the beginning of 2019, conducting 49 live two-hour shows with over 1,600 songs before retiring. Last September, in a bucket list moment, he performed live, on stage with Tommy Emmanuel in Nashville. He still performs regularly at the Acoustic Showcase.

Both Jackie and John invite you to join them, their all-star cast and your fellow neighbors for some much-needed laughs as they poke some fun at our favorite mountain community—Big Canoe.
