Getting your moves on at the Wellness Center

Information submitted by Steve Panetta

The Wellness Center has taken enhanced health and safety measures for residents, guests and employees. Keep in mind all must follow posted instructions while visiting any Big Canoe facility.

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.

By visiting Big Canoe facilities, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19. In compliance with the latest State of Georgia Executive Order, all persons entering the Wellness Center will be subject to screening. This will include a temperature check and asking several questions. Additionally, patrons are required to wear a mask at all times when using the fitness equipment and center.

But that doesn’t mean exercise isn’t happening for Big Canoers! Ten exercisers are allowed in the workout room, admitted at the top of the hour for 45 minutes. Masks are required during the extent of the workout. Reservations are needed.

There are a number of classes offered online via Zoom, including Terence Grigg’s exercise class and Elizabeth Devereux’s yoga classes. Additionally, 21 classes are offered “live” either in the studio or indoor pool. The indoor pool can accommodate four at a time and the whirlpool was recently opened for one person at a time, top of the hour and bottom of the hour.

The racquetball/squash court is open for singles only and masks must be worn during play. Wonder who the kids are using the pool? The youth swim team is back and practicing a couple of nights each week.
