No signs for the times

By Treena Parish

As we are now in full swing political season, I want to remind folks that political signs, banners, or displays of any kind are not authorized anywhere in Big Canoe, or on any property owned by Big Canoe.

The Covenants and Restrictions state: “No commercial signs, including For Rent, For Sale and other similar signs, shall be erected or maintained on any Residential Lot by anyone including but not limited to the Owner, a realtor, a contractor or subcontractor, except with the written permission of the Company or the Association, or except as may be required by legal proceedings, it being understood that the Company or the Association will not grant permission for said signs unless their erection is reasonably necessary to avert serious hardship to the Owner. If such permission is granted, the Company or the Association reserves the right to restrict size, color and content of such signs, Property identification and like signs exceeding a combined total of more than two (2) square feet may not be erected without the written permission of the Company or the Association.”

Additionally, the Architectural and Environment Control Standards state:

“The only flag allowed to be continuously displayed is the United States flag with a maximum size of 4’x6’.

  1. In addition to the United States flag, one military service flag, one seasonal banner, or one college pennant is permissible, with a maximum size of 3’x5’.
  2. Free standing flag poles and displays, including but not limited to “feather flags,” are prohibited.

If you have questions about what is allowable and what is not, contact Treena Parish at the Architectural and Environmental Control Department (706) 268-3394 or send an email to tparish@bigcanoepoa.org.
