Quilt Show and Marketplace Coming to Chapel on Oktoberfest Weekend

The Pine Needles Quilt Guild is hosting its semi-annual quilt show in the Cousins Hall from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. The later date will coincide with Big Canoe’s annual Oktoberfest.

This show will display the talents of the guild’s members, who employ many different quilting techniques, and will include a marketplace for handmade goods.

Among the categories of quilts on display are seasonal, traditional, Civil War reproduction, machine and hand appliqué, color values, quilt samplers and wool appliqué. Also, the Chapel will exhibit Big Canoe’s 50th Anniversary Quilt, inspired by the beauty of our mountain community through the seasons.

Attendees will be able to vote on their favorite quilt among the 60 in the show. Viewer’s choice winners will be announced on Oct. 8.

Raffle tickets for a quilt made by Guild founding member Barbara Mock are available for purchase on both days of the show. The Guild will draw the winning ticket at the end of the Saturday, Oct. 8 show.

There will also be a silent auction for original handmade items including two quilts.

The show’s marketplace will offer handmade seasonal, collegiate, and home décor items for purchase, as well as baked goods for sale by Let Them Eat Cake.

“This has been a team effort of Guild members for the last nine months,” says Dianne Mallini, a co-chair for the show. “It’s a great opportunity to do some gift shopping.”

A Quilt of Valor booth will feature several quilts made by Guild members, which will be presented to local veterans in recognition of their service.

Parking is in the Playfield parking lot. Access to the show is through the side walkway to the chapel. There will be signage and volunteers to help direct, but they will not be in place on Saturday due to Oktoberfest. Entry to the show is free on Oct. 7. Oktoberfest admission charges apply to the show on Oct. 8. You can read more about Oktoberfest here.
