Get Ready for Big Canoe’s Summer Sports Camps for Kids

By Colin Bergen

Summer is nearly upon us – and with it, ample free time for kids in and around Big Canoe. Luckily, Big Canoe amenities provide multiple sports-oriented summer camps for children of varying ages. Take a look to see what’s available.

Junior Tennis Camp

For the kids who prefer racquet sports, the Racquet Club will be offering weekly Junior Tennis Camps
When: starting on June 6 and running until July 29. Camps are available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. At noon each day, there will be a brief break for lunch and swimming at the Beach Club.
Cost: The fee is $275 weekly and $60 daily; Pee-Wee camp is $60 weekly and $20 daily.
Ages: 8 and up. For kids 5, 6, and 7, a Pee-Wee Camp is also on offer from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Info: Racquet Club at 706-268-3367. Be sure to book sooner rather than later – spots for this camp are going fast.

Junior Golf Summer Camp

For all the little Tiger Woods and Nelly Kordas in your household, the Golf Club will be hosting a series of one-week Junior Golf Summer Camps.
When: The first three weeks are still open for registration, including June 14-17, June 21-24 and July 5-8.
Cost: Participation is $275 per junior, which includes PGA instruction, lunch, gifts and prizes, free golf for that week, and a parent/junior tournament.
Ages: 5 to 15
Info: Golf Pro Shop at 706-268-3323.

Junior Fish Camp

If the fun on the water is what your child is looking for, consider the Fish Camp at the Marina. They’ll be out on a boat from 3 to 4 p.m. along with a captain and first mate where they will be taught how to fish. At the last hour, they’ll be invited (with their guardian’s permission) to swim in the lake. Kids are allowed to bring snacks.
When: There will be two three-day camps on June 24-26 and July 20-22.
Cost: Participation fee is $125. Children will be provided with a rod. They’ll also be given a tackle kit that they can keep.
Ages: 6 to 15 (The Marina reserves the right to make exceptions).
Info: The Marina at 706-268-3303.
