Restock the Closet Drive at Big Canoe Chapel Jan. 22-29, 2023

The Big Canoe Chapel will be partnering with several organizations for their “Restock the Shelves” donation drive, which provides supplies for the less fortunate. All donation items for these organizations can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday upstairs in the Broyles Center at the Big Canoe Chapel.

“Restock the Shelves” will benefit the following organizations with CURRENT URGENT NEEDS:

ACES provides shelter to child victims of abuse or neglect. Urgent needs: Cereal, snacks, liquid laundry detergent, paper products and floor- or all-purpose cleaner.

Appalachian Children’s Center is a child advocacy center, working with children who have been abused, maltreated, or are at risk. They support the judicial circuit that includes three North Georgia counties. Urgent needs: Individually wrapped snacks, juice boxes, bottled water, $10 Walmart gas cards and small fleece blankets.

Boys & Girls Clubs of North Georgia is part of a national organization providing a safe environment for after-school activities for children of all ages. Urgent needs: Paper towels, toilet paper, Kleenex, disinfectant spray, construction paper, Playdough and tempura paint.

Good Shepherd Clinic provides health care for the needy and uninsured in Dawson County. Urgent needs: Paper towels, toilet paper, bottled hand soap, Windex disinfectant spray, K-cups (regular and decaf), Kleenex, alcohol-free mouthwash, stock paper 8.5 x 11” and black printer ink (HP 952, HP 952XL, HP 902, HP 902XL, Brother LC201, LC203, TN730).

Joy House offers Christ-centered restorative care for struggling teens, families and individuals. Their residential program for teens provides a home for teens in crisis while partnering with their families to pursue family restoration. Urgent needs: Microfiber push broom, wood floor mop solution, girls’ bedding in a bag, twin XL sheets, kitchen- and large-size trash bags, magic erasers, Swiffer dusters, hand soap, baking sheets, Hobby Lobby gift cards and plastic food storage containers

North Georgia Family Partners works closely with the Division of Family & Children Services, providing home visitation services to Pickens County’s most at-risk families with children aged four and under. Parent Educators provide training in child development, discipline, health, nutrition, safety, sleep and parent/child interaction. Urgent needs: Individually wrapped snacks, juice boxes, small-size bottled water; diapers (all sizes), baby wipes, teething rings, cleaning supplies, books for babies and toddlers, and disposable vinyl tablecloths.

No One Alone provides emergency shelter and support services, including trauma counseling, legal advocacy, financial services and life skills training to victims of domestic violence in Dawson and Lumpkin counties. Urgent needs: Paper towels, toilet paper, Kleenex, cleaning supplies and non-perishable food items, bath soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner.

The Place of Dawson (Ric-Rack) provides a food bank, financial assistance and other support services to those in need in Dawson County. Urgent Needs: Diapers (all sizes and pull-ups), wipes, baby food and formula, Hygiene items (shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste/toothbrushes, mouthwash, dental floss, hand sanitizer), laundry detergent, dish soap, disinfectant spray and wipes.

The Pregnancy Center is a faith-based ministry in Pickens and neighboring counties providing pregnancy services (testing, childbirth classes, prenatal nutrition), and classes in parenting, family and life skills, and fatherhood. Urgent needs: Boys’ clothes (6 mos.- 5T, especially 4-5T), girls’ clothes (2T – 5T, especially 4-5T), diapers (sizes 2 – 6), wipes, formula, highchairs, Pack-N-Plays, strollers, children’s books and toys.

Ruth House provides a 6-24 month residential program for women with addiction, offering counseling, healing, life skills, job search and placement, and support to their families. Urgent needs: Toilet paper, Kleenex, cleaning supplies, paper towels, 13- and 30-gallon garbage bags, non-perishable food items (cream of mushroom and other soups, whole kernel corn, canned peaches, chili with/without beans, boxed pasta salad, Hamburger Helper, Uncle Ben’s rice, mac n’ cheese), plastic food containers for leftovers, shampoo, conditioner, hairbrushes, laundry soap, fabric softener, dish detergent, shower caddies, tampons, bottled hand soap, body wash and deodorant.

Timothy House is a residential drug and alcohol treatment program located in Talking Rock. Residents are required to be involved in community activities, including volunteering at food banks, thrift stores, and helping those in need with moving help and yard work. Developing practical skills in conjunction with treatment helps residents become productive members of their communities. Urgent needs: Spices: salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, Lawry’s seasoning, BBQ seasoning or rubs, flour, sugar and baking spices; coffee/creamer, disposable dinner plates/utensils, laundry detergent, Lysol spray, Clorox wipes, trash bags (13-, 30-, 39-gal.), paper towels and toilet paper.

Young Life Pickens County works with pre-teens and teens to bring them to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. Volunteers walk alongside students as they are faced with broken homes, divorced parents, the death of a friend, problems at school, families facing severe financial problems, peer pressure and the struggle of being a teenager in an ever-changing world. Urgent needs: snack-size bags of chips, cookies, and/or individually wrapped candy, 12-packs of Coke/Sprite/Dr. Pepper, bottled water, printer paper, paper towels and colored markers.
