Wolfscratch Performing Arts Offering Class Series on Acting, Dance and More

Aspiring thespians and casual entertainers both have something to look forward to this year with a lineup of classes coordinated by the newly minted the Wolfscratch Performing Arts club. Below are some of great opportunities for residents to earn their performing chops and socialize with neighbors via courses taught in the Wellness Center.

Movement Class

Holistic Therapist Janna Diamond will teach a monthly movement classes starting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25. The three-class series guide students on movement and body awareness, which are key to expressive acting. Future classes will be on Feb. 22 and Mar. 22. Acting 101 Class

Jeff Kurtz’s Acting 101 class explores the foundations of acting through exercises, games, improvisations and scene work. Jeff has worked as a professional actor, director and teacher in theater, film and TV for many years. Classes are from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12 at the Wellness Center. Subsequent classes are in the same time slot on the second and fourth Thursdays of January, February and March. Cost $35 per person for all six classes. Sign up at bigcanoetheater@gmail.com.

Storytelling Workshop

Learn about storytelling, stage presence and audience engagement under the tutelage of Cindy Shore Smith, a Moth StorySLAM winner. Classes are at 5 p.m. on Wednesday on March 8 and 22 and April 5 and 19 at the Beach Club. Cost: is $20 per student for the entire four-class series. Sign at ptcsmiths@gmail.com.

Dance and Choreography Class

Participate in fun musical theater Dance and Choreography Class taught by Bonnie East, who has performed professionally in musical theater. All ages are welcome. The eight-class session is from Feb. 16 to April 6 at 2 p. m. in the Wellness Center. Cost is $20 per student for the entire eight-class series. Improv Class:

Professional performer Jackie Agers will continue offering her popular six-part improv classes throughout 2023. These classes serve as an introduction to self-expression and performance for newcomers to acting and veterans looking for a refresher. These will be once-a-week classes for six-week blocks at the Wellness Center. Cost is $20 per student for each six-week session. Time and dates to be determined.
